Global Giving Day: A moment to make an Impact
Empowering Girls Today for a Successful Tomorrow
At Girl Now Woman Later, we think that empowering, educating, and caring for girls now is the first step toward the success of women tomorrow. Our goals are based on the core conviction that every girl should be able to complete an education without being hindered by the social stigmas around menstruation.
Encouraging Girls in Burkina Faso, Destigmatizing Menstruation
Girl Now Woman Later has introduced two cutting-edge workshops, “I WONDER! / J’IMAGINE!” and the KWL Strategy, to address these problems. Our workshops are making girls in Burkina Faso comfortable with menstruation.
These workshops are safe spaces. We encourage girls to learn about their bodies, discuss menstrual hygiene, and confidently manage their periods with dignity. Our workshops go beyond simple teaching sessions. With less stigma and embarrassment about menstruation, we empower girls to stay in school when they have their period.
The “I WONDER! / J’IMAGINE!” program works with girls ages 8-12 to ask them the basic questions of “Que penses-tu des menstrues?” (or “What do you think about menstruation?”). Before the workshops, this question would never have been posed to them. Asking these questions facilitates a healthy relationship between girls and their bodies before menstruation.
The second workshop, the Know, Want to Know, Learn (KWL) method, is intended for girls age twelve and up. These workshops go more in depth about puberty, anatomy, menstrual irregularities, and hormonal changes.
The July Bonus Day: A Chance to Make a Difference
Girl Now Woman Later is thrilled to participate in the July Bonus Day (July 10th), organized by Global Giving. This event is a chance to meet new supporters, and inspire small donations to reach new levels of generosity. Donations of $100.00 USD and more on this ONE day will be eligible for bonus matching money, increasing the effect of each contribution.
Whether you’ve been a longtime supporter, or are just learning about our mission and workshops, your contribution to The July Bonus Day will help break down barriers for girls. Together, we can make sure the next generation of Burkinabe girls have the resources they need to become successful, empowered women.
Join Us in Making a Difference
Your support of our workshops and participation in The July Bonus Day lays the groundwork for a more promising and equal future for women worldwide. By working together, we can change the way that people view menstruation, provide girls with opportunities and knowledge, and create a world in which period stigma does not impede a girl’s future.
