Purpose of the position: Girl Now Woman Later seeks new board members who enjoy hands-on engagement with skills and expertise in event planning, fundraising, management, marketing, governance and strategic planning, or community growth. The Board of Directors is responsible for steering the organization forward, fundraising, and ensuring the nonprofit has the resources it needs to grow. For more information, see the ABOUT tab.
Qualifications: We are looking for women or men that have a strong background and passion for social justice, women’s equality, and health equity. We would like to see a background in corporate, education or non-profit roles that have experience with fundraising, as well as written and communication.
Responsibilities: Members of the Board of Directors shall contribute to the organization in many ways including:
FUNDRAISING:
- Asking their networks to financially support the organization.
- Plan a fundraising event such as a golf tournament, bowling tournament, and other competitions to raise funds.
- Host an intimate dinner party at their home and ask their friends to donate.
MAKING CONNECTIONS:
- Connect the organization with their company’s foundation or community relations program, which often needs an inside person to get the gift.
- Connect the organization with leaders of other organizations to create partnerships.
- Promote the organization’s campaigns.
GENERAL ORGANIZATION GOVERNANCE:
- Provide feedback on the job of the Executive Director.
- Govern the organization and ensure adequate financial resources and stability.
- Assist with the identification, cultivation, and recruitment of potential new board members.
- Stay informed about board matters.
- Attend meetings every two months.

Mission: Girl Now Woman Later is on a mission to educate girls about menstrual health and reduce period shame. GNWL also works to increase the graduation rate for middle school girls and high school girls in Burkina Faso. We strongly believe that an educated girl will develop into an emancipated woman.
